About Humane Society of Southern Arizona

The Humane Society of Southern Arizona (HSSA), founded in 1944, is a private, independent, non-profit 501(c)(3) animal welfare organization with the mission of acting with compassion and responsible stewardship through innovative programs that serve pets and the people who love them. HSSA is the largest charitable animal welfare and protection agency in Southern Arizona with 90 employees and 1300 volunteers, serving all of southern Arizona, handling approximately 7000 animals per year, within a $6+ million annual budget. We follow the no-kill tenets and have a 97% live release rate. We have nationally-recognized programs and operate a thrift store, off-site adoption and retail centers and spay/neuter clinics, which perform about 11,000 surgeries per year.
