Undergraduate Global Procurement Intern

May - August 2018 • Portland, OR

What I liked

I loved being able to step out of my comfort zone and challenge myself and what I thought I could do. Procurement is usually for people who have strong analytical and quantitive skills which I don't necessarily get in my major, but everyone was supportive.

What I wish was different

I wish I had taken charge more in my internship and make the most of it because I was given an opportunity to be independent.

Advice

I would tell anyone who is looking to intern at Nike that it is a lot of handwork but it is worth the experience. This is truly an internship where they give you practical projects and a chance to leave a mark on the company.

Category Information Analyst

May - August 2018 • Beaverton, OR

What I liked

Interning as a Category Information Analyst(CIA) at Nike opened the doors to many other departments in Nike that I am now very interested in. I had the opportunity to manage and standardize all of Nike's product data attributes. Going forward, product teams will have a better understanding of the meaning and use behind each of the 160+ attributes. I got to work hands on with excel, Nike's product data system, product teams and development team to create the most accurate data for downstream use.

What I wish was different

Overall the Nike Internship program does an amazing job treating the interns as full time employees. In my specific position, I would I had gotten a little more experience with actual CIA work to help take the ease off some of the current CIA's. I want to be a CIA in the future, so I wanted to get the most experience as possible.

Advice

My piece of advice for all who intern at Nike or anywhere is to not be afraid. It took me about 5 weeks to start to feel comfortable but by then I was already at the half-way point and realized I had missed some opportunities. Once I started to feel at home, I could tell the relationships with my co-workers and managers changed as well as my confidence during the day. Internship season at Nike is vibrant and all the current employees love the interns so take advantage of the ability to network with as many people as you want!
