Student Assistant
The MU Connect Office invites applications for an Undergraduate Student Assistant to support undergraduate student success initiatives. This office maintains two primary applications: MU Connect, an online student success platform designed to facilitate student interactions, support academic progress, and enhance communication across university departments; and Roary, a student support chatbot that provides proactive check-ins and resource referrals.
The MU Connect team is dedicated to developing tools and resources that foster student success through campus-wide collaborations, strategic communication, sustainable intervention processes, and the engagement of faculty and staff. The Student Assistant will provide essential support to daily office operations and ongoing projects.
Responsibilities:
The Student Assistant plays an important role in supporting the office by helping manage applications, assisting with routine operational tasks, and prepares and distributes communications.
Daily tasks may include:
- Processing access requests for the MU Connect system.
- Updating information and developing resources within MU Connect.
- Reviewing communications and messages delivered through Roary.
- Brainstorming ideas and drafting marketing and communications about MU Connect and Roary.
- Maintaining spreadsheets to support back-end functions.
Qualifications:
While prior knowledge of website or application navigation is beneficial, it is not required. Students from all academic majors are encouraged to apply. Comprehensive training on system functionality will be provided. Preference will be given to undergraduate students who can work in the office for a minimum of 2 semesters.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following skills and attributes:
- Ability to meticulously follow detailed instructions and complete tasks on the back end of the system.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft PowerPoint.
- Willingness to develop a thorough understanding of MU Connect to effectively address potential issues.
- Develop communications and documentation related to applications.
- Strong communication skills; ability to check email regularly during working hours to maintain awareness of team updates.
- Capacity to provide general office support, including answering phone calls, reserving rooms, and managing supplies and mail.
- Ability to evaluate and interpret user feedback and data.
Timeline and hours:
Weekly work hours fall between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Hours will be arranged with the selected candidate to accommodate their class schedule and academic commitments. The position is primarily scheduled for the fall and spring semesters, with possible summer hours depending on the candidate's availability and the needs of the office.
