Construction Superintendent

Job Title: Construction Superintendent – Chemical 
Process Manufacturing & Safety 
Position Overview 
The Construction Superintendent oversees all on-site construction activities for chemical process manufacturing projects, ensuring work is executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with engineering specifications, regulatory requirements, and company standards. This role requires deep knowledge of industrial construction, chemical processing environments, and the unique safety and regulatory considerations associated with hazardous materials, pressure systems, and process equipment. 


Key Responsibilities 
Construction Management 
• Lead day‑to‑day on‑site construction activities for chemical processing facilities, including mechanical, civil, structural, electrical, and instrumentation work. 
• Coordinate and supervise subcontractors, trades, and vendors to ensure timely and quality execution. 
• Review construction drawings, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and project specifications for accuracy and constructability. 
• Monitor project progress, resolve field issues, and implement corrective actions where necessary. 
• Ensure proper installation of chemical process systems: reactors, pressure 
vessels, tanks, piping, pumps, heat exchangers, and control systems.

Safety & Compliance 
• Enforce all site safety protocols, especially those related to hazardous materials, confined spaces, hot work, LOTO (Lockout/Tagout), fall protection, and process safety hazards. 
• Support or lead Process Safety Management (PSM) activities, particularly around startup, shutdown, and modification work. 
• Conduct daily safety briefings, toolbox talks, and site inspections. 
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, NFPA, API, and other relevant industry
standards.
• Coordinate incident reporting, investigations, and corrective action tracking.
Quality Assurance & Documentation 
• Verify compliance with QA/QC requirements for welds, pressure testing, equipment installation, and structural work.
• Maintain detailed documentation including daily reports, site logs, safety
checklists, inspection records, and change orders.
• Support commissioning and startup activities, participating in punch list creation and completion.


Project Coordination 
• Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, safety professionals, and
plant personnel.
• Maintain accurate scheduling updates and forecast potential delays or risks.
• Manage material deliveries, equipment logistics, and site staging.
• Facilitate site meetings with contractors and stakeholders.


Qualifications 
Required 
• 5–10+ years of experience as a Construction Superintendent in industrial or
chemical processing environments.
• Strong knowledge of chemical plant operations and associated construction risks.
• Expertise with OSHA regulations, PSM requirements, and industrial safety
standards.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, and technical
specifications.
• Proven leadership skills in managing construction crews and subcontractors.
Preferred 
• Experience with hazardous materials handling, chemical reactors, and
high‑pressure equipment.
• Certification(s) such as OSHA 30, CSP, CHST, or equivalent.
• Experience with EPC‑style projects or shutdown/turnaround environments.
• Familiarity with project management software (e.g., Primavera, Procore, MS
Project).
