Peer Advisor, Discovery and Transfer Centers
Job Description
The Discovery Center & Transfer Center Peer Advising program provides current and past Exploring & Tiger Pathways students at the University of Missouri with leadership, networking, recruitment, and community building opportunities.
Peer Advisors will assist the Discovery & Transfer Centers with building community around being in Exploring and Tiger Pathways, while sharing important information with current students to help improve their success at Mizzou. Some of the activities that Peer Advisors will facilitate or take part in include:
Recruitment activities for the Discovery Center, including tabling at Meet Mizzou Days and chatting with prospective students in more personalized meetings
Plan and facilitate community building events or campaigns
Giving or assisting with presentations to students and families about the Discovery Center or Transfer Center
Assisting students to learn and use Mizzou specific platforms for their academics like Stellic, MU Connect, MizzouOne, Canvas, Engage and myZou
Help with student outreach regarding academic advising and deadlines through calling campaigns
Peer Advisors will hold regular peer advising office hours during Early Registration each fall & spring to assist with enrollment. Peer Advisors will be expected to participate in staffing recruitment events and attend weekly team meetings. Opportunities to travel for recruitment may be available.
Selected applicants will join the Discovery Center & Transfer Center Peer Advising team at the start of the Fall 2026 semester. This position is renewable each semester until graduation and is contingent upon performance.

Compensation & Hours
Peer Advisors will hold regular peer advising office hours each week during the academic term during Early Registration each fall & spring to assist with enrollment. Peer Advisors will be expected to participate in staffing recruitment events and attend weekly team meetings. Opportunities to travel for recruitment may be available.
Hourly rate: $15/hr
Peer Advisors can expect to work anywhere between .5 and 10 per week, on average.
The average varies depending on time of year.

Eligibility
Minimum Qualifications: Students must have completed a minimum of 12 credit hours 1 term at the University of Missouri and be in good standing.
Preferred Qualifications: Students who are currently, or have previously been, an Exploring student in the Discovery Center AND/OR a Tiger Pathways student in the Transfer Center will be given priority. Preferred applicants will have completed SSC 1150 College Success Seminar, also referred to as Mizzou 101.
Here is the timeline that we will follow for the hiring process:
March 13th - Applications open
April 3rd - Applications close
April 7th & 8th - Outreach to update on status & schedule interviews, if applicable
April 13th to 15th - Interviews
April 20th - All applicants should know whether they've been selected
