Electrician - Virtual Design Construction
The Opportunity
VDC Specialists is looking for people who want to build a career at the intersection of construction, technology, and problem-solving.
You do not need to be an experienced electrician or BIM expert to be successful here.
We are especially interested in students and recent graduates studying electrical technology, electrical construction, construction management, drafting/CAD, architecture, engineering, or related programs. We are also open to candidates with hands-on construction or electrical experience who want to take their knowledge into the planning and coordination side of construction.
We can teach you the software. What we need from you is the ability to learn, think through problems, take feedback, and put in the work to get good at it.
Our team creates the digital plans that electrical crews use to build complex commercial projects. Before anything is installed in the field, we work through how it will actually be built, where conduit will run, how systems will be supported, how different trades will fit together, and where problems may occur.
This is an opportunity to learn that process from the ground up.
What You'll Learn & Do
As you develop your skills, you will learn to:
- Build and modify electrical models using Revit
- Read and understand electrical drawings and construction documents
- Plan conduit routing and installation methods
- Apply construction knowledge to real-world modeling and coordination
- Identify clashes and installation conflicts before construction
- Review project information using Navisworks and Bluebeam
- Support prefabrication and build-sheet development
- Coordinate with engineers, contractors, and other trades
- Participate in coordination and problem-solving meetings
- Help develop installation strategies that improve efficiency
- Understand how electrical systems move from drawings to the jobsite
Our work supports complex commercial construction projects including data centers, hospitals, laboratories, airports, and other large facilities.
Who We're Looking For
You don't need to check every box. We are looking for people with the aptitude and attitude to become really good at this work.
You may be a strong fit if you:
- Are currently studying or recently completed a program in electrical technology, electrical construction, construction management, drafting/CAD, architecture, engineering, or a related field
- Have hands-on construction, electrical, mechanical, or other trade experience
- Learn quickly and enjoy figuring things out
- Can think through problems instead of waiting for someone else to solve them
- Take feedback well and actually apply it
- Pay attention to details
- Communicate clearly and professionally
- Take ownership of your work
- Are willing to ask questions when you don't understand something
- Are willing to put in the work to improve
- Want to build a long-term career rather than simply find a job
Previous BIM or Revit experience is not required. Training is provided.
Commercial electrical experience is a plus, particularly experience with conduit, supports, blueprint reading, or electrical installation. But we are absolutely willing to teach the right entry-level candidate.
The Learning Curve
Let's be direct: there is a lot to learn.
You are not expected to walk in knowing everything. Your first several months will involve training, coaching, learning new software, understanding construction processes, and developing your technical skills.
You will also be expected to take ownership of your learning.
We look for people who listen, ask questions, apply feedback, solve problems, and get better over time.
If you consistently demonstrate that you can learn, think, take ownership, and add value, there is a clear opportunity to take on more responsibility and grow your career, including increased compensation as your capabilities develop.
Where This Can Take You
This role is designed to develop into a career in Virtual Design & Construction (VDC).
VDC combines construction knowledge, technology, modeling, and coordination to solve problems before they reach the jobsite.
As your technical skills and responsibilities grow, so does your role.
For someone coming out of an electrical or construction program, this is an opportunity to take what you're learning in school and apply it to some of the largest and most complex construction projects in the country.
