Safety Intern – Electrical Construction

Citadel Electric Group is looking for a Safety Intern to join our Safety team for Summer 2027 and gain hands-on experience supporting large electrical construction projects throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area.

This is a field-focused internship. You’ll spend significant time on active construction sites working alongside safety professionals, electricians, foremen, superintendents, and project managers.

The goal is to give you real exposure to how safety works in the construction industry — not just administrative work. You’ll learn how hazards are identified, how safety expectations are communicated in the field, how incidents are investigated, and how project teams balance safety, quality, and production.

The internship may be based at Citadel’s Oak Grove headquarters or at project sites in De Soto, Overland Park, or Grandview, depending on project needs and candidate location.

What You’ll Learn and Do

  • Participate in jobsite safety walks, inspections, observations, and audits.
  • Learn to identify construction hazards and assist with corrective actions.
  • Participate in pre-task planning, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and toolbox talks.
  • Assist with new-hire safety orientations and employee training.
  • Help maintain safety documentation, training records, inspections, and permits.
  • Participate in incident and near-miss investigations and root-cause discussions.
  • Learn applicable OSHA construction standards and electrical-safety requirements.
  • Work directly with Citadel’s Safety team and field leadership.
  • Gain exposure to electricians, foremen, superintendents, project managers, and other construction professionals.
  • Support special safety initiatives and projects as assigned.

Who We’re Looking For

We’re looking for students who are interested in building a career in construction safety and want meaningful field experience.

  • Currently pursuing an associate or bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Comfortable working around active construction operations.
  • Willingness to ask questions, learn, and take initiative.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to meet applicable project-site access requirements.

Preferred, But Not Required

  • Previous construction, safety, trades, or internship experience.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 training.
  • Familiarity with OSHA construction standards.
  • Interest in electrical construction.

No previous professional safety experience is required.
