Career Specialist
Job Description
Career Specialists are students who, after a semester of training, help fellow students with: career and
major exploration, resume writing, interviewing skills, and job/internship searching. In addition, Career Specialists coordinate and administer many Career Center programs and activities through active participation on one or more of the Center’s program teams, such as Outreach, Marketing, Diversity and Inclusivity, and more. Through working at the Career Center, Career Specialists gain valuable skills including listening and verbal communication skills, resume and cover letter writing, interviewing, team building, and leadership. The position will offer minimal hours starting in October 2018, 10 hours a week from January to May of 2019 for a comprehensive training, and an average of 8-15 hours a week in subsequent semesters.
Qualifications
- Satisfactory academic standing with a minimum G.P.A. of 2.5 at time of application and throughout employment
- Active student standing with the ability to make a minimum of a three semester commitment after completion of the Spring training semester (graduation date December 2020 or later)
- Time to participate in training in spring 2019 (10 hours per week)
- Meet the required 8 to 15 hour a week time commitment to the Career Center after training
- Ability to demonstrate the following:
- Interest in helping others with career planning
- Initiative to start new projects
- Customer service and communication skills
- Work well in a team atmosphere
- Willingness to learn
- Strong work ethic

- Wednesday, August 29th, 5:30-6:30 pm
- Thursday, August 30th, 5:00-6:00 pm
Information Sessions will be held at the Student Success Center in the MU Career Center (lower level). If you cannot attend one of the meetings, please stop by the MU Career Center from August 28 - September 4 to get an application and to speak with a Career Specialist about the position.
