Community Partnership Coordinator

True/False's mission is to forge a supportive, celebratory refuge for filmmakers and amplify the possibilities of nonfiction films, including ones that imaginatively engage – and even transform – the real world. We are also dedicated to being a welcoming event for people from a wide range of backgrounds and points of view. In year 16, we recognize that we are transitioning from a makeshift project to a sustainable, cultural institution. In doing that, we aim to put access, diversity, equity, and parity front and center in everything that we do. Behind this brand-new position is the intention to be more inclusive across demographic lines, and we're looking for someone with the vision, drive, and curiosity to help lead the way. The right candidate will cultivate deep relationships with stakeholders in our local community so as to help the festival better mirror it, including the makeup of Fest staffing, projects, volunteers, and audiences. In addition to building and maintaining alliances with local groups, the Community Partnership Coordinator will help strengthen our national program for hosting emerging filmmakers.

Specific duties include but are not limited to:

  • Craft and implement improved local outreach strategies
  • Identify barriers to festival participation + potential adaptations to cultural differences, then work closely across the T/F team to implement improvements
  • Serve as lead contact for local groups and visiting colleges/universities.
  • Work as part of the T/F Education team on a burgeoning festival program that offers an organized track through the fest including mentorship for student filmmaker groups
  • Organize events during the festival for participating groups
  • Organize and coordinate the True/False Student Symposium
  • Work with staff on developing measurements to determine success

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • Highly organized, attentive to detail
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Superb interpersonal skills with high emotional intelligence
  • Experience working with people of diverse ages, genders, sexualities, ethnicities, cultures, races, abilities, and socio-economic backgrounds
  • Self-driven individual with the desire to be part of a cultural organization that has a positive impact on the city of Columbia, the state of Missouri, and the wider world of documentary filmmaking
  • Local knowledge and relationships are preferred, but not required

Compensation and Culture: This role is a 15-hour-a-week, 38-week-a-year position with a non-profit in Columbia, Missouri. We offer a results-oriented work environment, flexibility in setting your own schedule, a generous amount of time off, and a collaborative culture.

To Apply: Please submit a cover letter telling us why you should be our Community Partnership Coordinator, a resume with two references, and any supplemental details of related experience. Send materials to Paul Sturtz, paul@truefalse.org. Applications will be accepted until August 15, but a hiring decision may be made before that date
