Duties: Under general supervision, performs work on difficult architectural plans and details and checks plans against specifications.

Minimum Requirements: Graduation from an accredited five year college or university majoring in architecture or architectural engineering plus a minimum of two years of experience in the field of architecture; or graduation from a four year college or university with major course work in engineering, supplemented by three years of experience in the field of architecture. Substitution: Registration as an Architect in the State of Illinois and two years of experience in the field of architecture may be substituted for the foregoing requirements.

Examination: The examination will consist of an oral test, including a written exercise weighted 100%. Candidates must achieve a passing score to have their names placed on the eligible list.
The oral test will assess candidates' knowledge, skill and ability in areas such as state and local construction practices, rules and regulations; construction materials; interacting with various trade groups and their jurisdictional boundaries; recent developments, current literature and sources of information in architecture; using AutoCAD to review and analyze drawings and accompanying explanatory comments; assessing the feasibility of building and renovation projects; and oral, interpersonal and written communication.
 
Examination Process: All applicants will be advised by email if they have been admitted to the examination process. Applicants who do not receive a response to their application by Friday, September 27, 2019 should contact the Employee Selection Office at (312) 751-5100.
ORAL TEST: The oral test will be administered on Friday, October 4, 2019 and Saturday, October 5, 2019 (if necessary to accommodate the number of candidates). Candidates will be informed by email of the date, time and place of the oral test.
