Outdoor Programs Specialist

Each year Tall Oaks hires a crew focused on making sure camp runs smoothly during our busy summer season. It is our intent to provide a meaningful, outdoor summer work experience. We are looking for service-oriented individuals with a positive, friendly, and enthusiastic attitude who enjoy interacting with children and adults from diverse backgrounds and varying degrees of physical and mental ability.

Successful applicants will have the opportunity to gain experience related to ALL youth development and education through outdoor activities. Candidates will receive training in LIFEGUARDING, ARCHERY, CHALLENGE COURSE and ground games, HORSE HANDLING, and NATURE GUIDING for this position. Duties will include (in order of most to least needed staff):

LIFEGUARDING: Will provide lifeguarding services for Tall Oaks' guests and daily pool maintenance. Prefer current American Red Cross lifeguard certificate but can be provided by Tall Oaks; at minimum, candidate must have a strong swimming background for on-site training.
CHALLENGE COURSE facilitation: Will assist with Outdoor Adventures of Kansas (OAK) programing in our high and low ropes course as well as facilitate ground games. Facilitators also teach nature study and archery lessons. Will be provided with training, but previous challenge course, rock climbing or other outdoor experience a plus.
HORSE HANDLING: Will assist with lead lines and trail rides, riding lessons, care and feeding of horses, and upkeep of equipment & facilities. Training provided, previous large animal experience helpful.
Food Service: Will train to work in Food Service Department where they will assist when needed
Maintenance: Will assist with general facility, trail, and grounds maintenance when needed.
Housekeeping: Will assist with cabin cleanup and general housekeeping when needed.

WORK SCHEDULE: Consists of a combination of day and evening shifts, with two set days off each week in normal situations. Full summer work schedule will conclude mid-August. Applicants needing a shorter summer schedule will be considered. Each summer staff person will be assigned duties for the day to include a combination of the descriptions listed above.
