The Avian Conservation Center / Center for Birds of Prey (“the Center”) is the most comprehensive avian organization of its kind in the nation combining medical care, education outreach, research, captive breeding, and oiled bird treatment to address the vital environmental issues of our time.

Under general supervision of the Director of Development and the Administrative/Communications Manager, the Advancement Associate will operate the Center’s Guest Services facility Thursday – Saturday while the Center is open to the public and assist in development and communications activities Tuesday – Wednesday in the administrative office.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Curate a positive visitor experience for all daily visitors to the Center by: maintaining the Guest Services kiosk, facilitating a smooth admission process, promoting merchandise sales and memberships, assisting with social media, and providing high quality customer service.
- Assist with the planning, implementation, and execution of fundraising and educational events at the Center to include the annual gala, a concert fundraiser in the spring, Owls by Moonlight programs in the fall/winter, migratory bird walks, volunteer staff events and more.
- Lead the gift acknowledgement process to provide timely and meaningful recognition of donations to the Center.
- Advance the Center’s Membership program by generating renewal letters for Members, tracking and reporting Membership statistics internally to evaluate program performance, and providing appropriate recognition of Members when they visit the Center throughout the year.
- Manage support volunteers as required, including scheduling, training, assignment and supervision of duties.
- Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to work with the public and relate to diverse audiences;
- Excellent organization and communication skills (both oral and written);
- Self-starter capable of working independently or as part of a team in a dynamic, rapidly changing environment requiring multi-tasking;
- Ability to work outside in all seasons;
- Comfortable with tablet and swipe technology and basic computer fluency;
- Ability to lift 30lbs;
- Reliable transportation;
- Some evening and weekend hours required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- College degree;
- 1-2 years’ experience with cash management, retail sales, and/or donor management software;
- An interest in avian science and conservation;
- Desire to learn about donor communications and non-profit management.

This is a full-time, salaried position with a starting salary of $24,000. Health insurance benefits, paid vacation, and a regional reciprocity pass to area attractions are available after completing 90 days of service. The hours include, but are not limited to, Tuesday-Saturday, 8:30AM-5PM.
