The Office of Budget and Fiscal Planning encourages applications for a Budget Analyst. This individual supports budget-related financial management, reporting, and analysis for the University of Colorado Boulder. The Budget Analyst serves as part of the Budget & Fiscal Planning team and works with fellow team members to improve the quality of budget management and reporting, serving individuals, departments, and leadership within the larger campus community.
Who We Are
Budget & Fiscal Planning partners with academic and administrative leaders, coordinates campus-wide budget and fiscal planning and identifies and facilitates the allocation of resources necessary for the Boulder campus to excel as a major educational and research university. Through collaboration, we connect ideas, resources and decisions that drive the university’s success. BFP is a part of the Budget and Finance team within the Finance and Business Strategy (FBS) division. Our office collaborates with campus partners to ensure the University of Colorado Boulder has a strategic, systematic, and comprehensive approach to all areas of business and financial management.
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Budget Management & Reporting 
  • Provide relevant, timely, and accurate financial information on issues related to campus resources to BFP management and other campus constituents.
  • Serve as a point of contact for campus personnel on budgetary matters, providing information and training as necessary.
  • Prepare financial and narrative reports on a variety of issues, adapting the reports to meet the needs of the intended audience.
  • Work independently and cooperatively with various department and campus personnel to optimize the quality and flow of relevant resource data and information.
  • Assist in the implementation of the annual budget, including management of allocations inherent to the campus budget model, communication of allocations, and fiscal year-end tasks.
Financial Modeling & Analysis 
  • Conduct financial analysis, including modeling and forecasting, on a variety of Boulder campus programs and services, including determination of the methodology, identification of data sources, and collection, analysis, and presentation of data to appropriate audiences.
  • Evaluate existing funding models for strategy-resource alignment and funding stability.
  • Deploy and support standard or custom financial tools to enable and optimize data-driven decisions.
  • In partnership, evaluate and improve existing campus-wide fiscal processes and mechanisms.
Budgetary Support for Campus Initiatives
  • Assist in the development of funding requests and other narratives for leadership.
  • With the team, design and implement new funding models to enable strategic initiatives and transitions.
  • Conduct modeling, research, and analysis underpinning policy changes and emerging opportunities.

Salary range starts at $60,000, commensurate with experience.

What We Require
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, or related field OR a Bachelor's degree in an unrelated field and at least 2 years of progressively responsible experience in higher education/public/nonprofit finance or business. 
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
What You Will Need
Efficiency in written and oral communications, collaboration, and problem solving.
  • Proficiency and confidence in discourse with senior and executive leadership and other key constituents.
  • Outstanding Excel skills, including academic and/or work experience in building financial models and analyses.
What We Would Like You To Have
  • Master’s degree from an accredited university in business, finance, public/higher education, administration, or a comparable discipline.
  • Experience in higher education administration.
  • Progress toward or achievement of relevant financial certifications, including CPA, CFA, etc.
