Industrial Safety Internship at Cerro Flow/Shelbina MO
Cerro Industrial Tube is a manufacturer of copper tubing and fittings for the HVAC/Refrigeration industry. RLS LLC is an innovative rapid locking system fitting for HVAC applications. Both companies are co-located at our facility Northeast Missouri, about 40 minutes west of Hannibal.
About the Role:
This position will assist with environmental, health, and safety programs for our Shelbina, Missouri tube and fitting manufacturing facilities. Responsibilities may include planning, establishing, implementing and maintaining a variety of health, safety and environmental programs to assure the highest possible degree of safety for employees. The intern may be asked to assist with EHS programs at other Marmon Industrial HVAC/R Group facilities as well.
Your Responsibilities in this Role:
• Provide technical safety and health support and information to production and corporate personnel.
• Assist the corporate director of EHS with preparation of written safety programs and policies.
• Assist with safety training for new employee orientation.
• Identify company safety training needs, develop and coordinate safety training programs.
• Participate in new product/process reviews, including job hazard analysis and operator training, etc.
• Work with Operations to identify and evaluate any hazardous conditions or practices.
• Work with Engineering and Maintenance to develop controls for identified hazards.
• Support Operations personnel in selection of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Coordinate any Industrial Hygiene exposure monitoring or testing as needed (noise, chemical, ergonomics)
• Promote safety and health awareness throughout company and demonstrate compliance.
• Serve as a resource to the company safety committee as needed.
• Understand federal and state occupational safety and health regulations and monitor changes as they occur.
• Audit inspection records of various departments to ensure compliance with company and federal/state safety and health regulations and follow up as necessary.
• Monitor lost-time injuries/illnesses and workers' compensation claims to resolution.
• Assist with filing and following up with workers compensation claims and injury reports
• Review injury/illness and near-miss investigation reports and follow up as necessary.
• Inventory safety supplies and create purchase orders for fulfillment.
• Take environmental samples and prepare for shipment to laboratories for analysis
• Prepare reports of environmental compliance for submission to local, state, and federal agencies.
• Other duties as assigned.
What We Seek in You:
Minimum Qualifications
• Skilled in Microsoft programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook).
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Training experience and understanding of adult learning desired.
• Problem solving and analysis skills (Root Cause Analysis and Lean manufacturing a plus).
Preferred Qualifications
• Recent graduate or currently pursuing a degree in safety management, science, engineering or industrial hygiene discipline.
• Bilingual English/Spanish a plus.

Shelbina is located in the heart of Northeast Missouri. It is a rural community of 1500 people located midway between Hannibal and Macon, MO on US Hwy 36. Shelbina boasts an aquatic center, community lake with campground and a 9-hole golf course.
