Veteran's Service Officer

Under the direction of the County Administrator, serves to inform active duty, National Guard, reserve, retired, veterans, and their dependents of benefits available to them through Federal, State and County governments and local resources. Serves as a liaison between veteran(s) and various government agencies and as advocate for veteran(s) where needed.

Mandatory testing to be administered in Superior, WI at the Douglas County Government Center, at a date to be determined. 

Please note exams will be administered BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. 

Qualifying candidates will be notified via email after the closing date of this posting with further information regarding the examination.

Starting salary based upon job-related qualifications and experience. 

Perform duties prescribed by law, including the following: Advise persons living in the
service officer's county who served in the U.S. armed forces regarding any benefits to which they may be entitled or any complaint or problem arising out of such service and render to them and their dependents all possible assistance; make such reports to the county board as the county board requires; cooperate with federal and state agencies that serve or grant aids or benefits to former military personnel and their dependents and furnish information about veterans burial places within the county (See Wisconsin State Statutes s.45.80(5) and s.45.62(2)).

Review, prepare and submit departmental budget plans and requirements. Organize the operations and activities of veteran transportation services. Monitor transportation scheduling and transportation budget. Attend educational and training programs to enhance individual skills and to improve quality of the department programs. Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.
