Animal Care Internships

Wildlife Rescue Center Internships

The Wildlife Rescue Center offers Animal Care internships designed for individuals pursuing studies in pre-veterinary medicine, fish and
wildlife management, zoology, conservation biology and related fields.
Animal Care Interns learn and perform the fundamentals of Wildlife Rehabilitation, including daily cleaning, feeding and care of wild patients, helping staff with admissions, triage and treatment procedures and aiding with releases and rescues.
Qualifications:
We are looking for interns who are willing to work hard and learn throughout the duration of their internship. We find that the most successful applicants are those who are team players with strong attention to detail. 
 
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Possess a positive attitude; be a team player and exhibit a strong attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing with staff and volunteer team
  • Ability to do rigorous outdoor work in all types of weather
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks and lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work calmly and efficiently in a fast-paced, sometimes intense environment
  • Willingness to learn and accept supervision and constructive feedback
Terms of Internship: 
  • 12-16 week commitment, minimum 24 hour work week is expected; Schedule will be determined between supervisory staff and intern
  • Must pay a Volunteer Membership fee of $28 (This will cover the cost of training materials, t-shirt, & supplies)
  • Must attend a Volunteer Orientation & R1 Animal Care Training Course (3 Hours)​​
  • Year-round opportunities are available 
  • Seasons:​
  • Spring: February - May
  • Summer: May - August
  • Fall: August - November 
  • Interns must provide their own transportation
  • Interns must arrange for their own housing
  • Intern positions are unpaid
