Starting Salary: $10.25 – 13.84 per hour        

This is a temporary, as needed position with an estimated length of service between the months of April – August, working up to 30-40 hours per week. Multiple positions available.

JOB DESCRIPTION: The purpose of this position is to assists with implementing and maintaining various types of landscapes within the park system. Areas include but are not limited to traditional beds that contain trees, shrubs, perennials, and annuals; and specialty areas for orchards, herbs, pollinators, rain gardens and historic plantings.

·        Performs maintenance practices to sustain healthy landscapes.
·        Activities include planting, pruning, weeding, deadheading, watering and applying a variety of chemicals. 
·        Uses numerous hand tools including shovels, rakes, pruners, shears, etc. 
·        Maintains daily documentation of work completed.  
·        Assists with other park construction and maintenance projects as may be needed. 
·        Performs other duties and reports to additional locations as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS: 

·        Must be 18 years of age to apply.
·        Requires graduation from a general or technical high school or equivalent. 
·        Must have the ability to identify plants and complete tasks requiring physical activity that include exerting moderate physical effort typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing and balancing. 
·        Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds. 
·        Ability to operate equipment and machinery which requires monitoring multiple conditions and making multiple, complex and rapid adjustments. This equipment may include trucks, tractors, tillers, generators, pumps and small utility vehicles. 
·        Must be able to understand and communicate written and verbal instructions with parks department personnel, volunteers and the general public. 
·        Must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record with a Class F driver’s license.
·        May be required to work weekends.
