Junior Loan Underwriter

Job Description: Responsible for supporting Senior Underwriting team by performing a detailed review of loan documentation submitted by internal loan officers. The detailed review will include reviewing the credit application, credit reports, income documentation, asset documentation and any other loan documentation required to render a credit decision.

Job Responsibilities
  • Review and analyze loan application, credit report, income and asset documentation and purchase agreement to render credit decision in compliance with investor guidelines
  • Effectively communicates the loan approval or denial reasons after review of documentation to appropriate party
  • Works with internal staff to provide follow up, counter offers and additional information requests
  • Refer loan requests exceeding the underwriter’s individual authority or those not meeting investor guidelines to underwriting manager along with recommendations and documentation in support of recommendation
  • Reviews conditions submitted on approved loans and clears conditions when appropriate
  • Adheres to all investor guidelines
  • Display excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Be able to adjust work and thought process to accommodate multiple investor guidelines and requirements
  • Employ a strong sense of urgency and ownership, and demonstrate a strong, professional work ethic in all facets of completing work duties
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
  • College degree required
  • 1 to 2 years of consumer loan underwriting a plus
  • Ability to analyze and interpret credit reports and financial data weighing risk for reward
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office and financial calculator
  • Understanding of federal regulations concerning consumer lending
