Communications Specialist (includes legal assistance and grant writing)

Placement position available to participants in year-long LVC program

The Omaha Municipal Land Bank ("OMLB") is a non-profit corporation, acting in a governmental capacity, and a political subdivision of the state of Nebraska. We are a catalyst for transforming distressed properties into community assets. In partnership with the real estate team, the Communications Specialist (hereinafter “Specialist”) will help advance development of distressed properties caused by delinquent taxes, and unfit/unsafe designations, in our neighborhoods. We are looking for someone with strong organizational, analytical, and social media skills, to support multiple divisions and numerous projects, simultaneously. It’s the perfect position for someone who wants to learn how to revitalize neighborhoods dealing with urban blight. The tasks of this position can be flexible based on your interests to include more legal tasks and grant writing. Activities related to this position will include, but are not limited to:
• Assisting with developing and managing Board meeting agendas, presentations, and subsequent record management;
• Working with internal and external resources to coordinate communication activities using the following tools and platforms: Twitter, Facebook, and Wordpress (just to name a few);
• Playing a key role in event planning, coordination and execution;
• Supporting Real Estate, Finance and Law teams with real estate transactions, property database management and foreclosure processes.
• Managing all grant applications, communications, and reports.
• Assisting with metrics and reports on marketing effectiveness, and program evaluation for grant materials.

The Specialist will need the following knowledge, skills, and abilities to be successful in the position:
• Time management;
• Oral and written communication;
• Ability to work independently;
• Results oriented and performance driven; and,
• Experience with event planning and coordination is a plus.
