Assistant Underwriter

ASSISTANT UNDERWRITER
Growing insurance organization is looking for an Assistant Underwriter to enhance their Private Flood Products team. 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Internal and External Customer Service: Effectively, professionally, and politely work with both internal employees and external clients. Operate with a strong level of integrity, honor commitments made, focus on doing the right thing and strive to make each client understand and feel their business is very important to us. Ability to maintain focus, respond timely and efficiently, and meet deadlines within a fast-paced environment.
• New Project Process: Ability to work independently on assigned projects including, but not limited to, client and agency report management, appraisal audits, monthly renewal payment tracking, renewal processing, assist Underwriters on refreshing or amending quotes and follow-up for outstanding information when necessary.
• Desire to Learn and Be Flexible: This position will be heavily involved with responding to clients, agents, internal employees at all levels and this position must be willing to be adaptable, flexible and willing to learn and perform other duties as assigned.
  • This position involves constant distractions and interruptions from those requesting information or assistance, which may cause changes in priorities. Time pressures and tight deadlines may occur depending on business needs and the calendar. At times, management of multiple projects and assignments may occur. Depending on the specific assignment, there may be long periods of repetitious or highly detailed, precise work. Position requires ability to focus and adjust to changing priorities.
• Communication: Exceptional oral and written communication skills, always pleasant telephone manner. Read and interpret underwriting guidelines and procedures manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; and speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
• All other duties as assigned.

Preferred Skills/Abilities:
• Maintain confidentiality of client information
• Possess outstanding customer service skills no matter how difficult the customer or situation
• Insurance industry experience preferred but not necessary
• 1+ year of experience interacting with people/customers
• Experience performing a variety of clerical functions including answering phone calls and data entry
• Ability to prioritize/multi-task
• Organization and time management skills
• Good analytical skills with high attention to detail
• Ability to follow policies, procedures, and regulations
• Follow through to ensure tasks are completed

• Innovative and assertive
• Strong math and computer skills

Education
• Undergraduate degree or equivalent work experience preferred
