The Research Associate, working under the direction of the Research Manager, will be responsible for all aspects of data collection required to conduct research trials in commercial swine production facilities.
 
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

·      Perform work necessary for data collection (weighing pigs, treatment assignment, feed sample collection, etc.)
·      Communicate with the farm manager and farm team members regarding research procedures and production operations
·      Ensure research is conducted according to Animal Care requirements
·      Manage alarms or emergencies as they occur
·      Work with Research Team to continually improve processes and efficiencies
·      Adhere to the company’s confidentiality policies
·      Follow farm SOPs and research protocols
·      Performs other related duties as assigned by management

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Requires knowledge of scientific research methods and standards
Prior experience with pig management and animal husbandry.
Knowledge of basic computer programs is necessary. 

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

  1. Bachelor Degree in Animal Science preferred, OR
  2. Associate Degree in Science, AND
  3. 1-2 years of research experience preferred, OR
  4. 1-2 years of swine production experience preferred, OR
  5. Any equivalent combination of relevant education and experience

  3. Ability to work under frequent time pressures
  4. Ability to solve complex problems
  5. Ability to stand on concrete for extended periods of time
  6. Ability to lift 50 lbs repetitively
  7. Ability to push, pull, carry items on regular basis
  8. Ability to adhere to farm Biosecurity procedures
