Intern - Accounting and Finance

SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS

JOB TITLE: Intern- Accounting and Finance
PAY RANGE: $15.00- $18.00

By applying to this requisition, you will be considered for multiple Accounting and Finance internships in which you are qualified. Most internships are for Summer 2021, with some opportunities for part-time work throughout the school year.
 
Scheduled Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (Other hours as required)

Location: Internships will vary between the Kansas City, Missouri and Topeka, KS areas. Evergy offers a housing stipend to eligible interns to assist in covering costs of short-term summer housing.

Below is a summary list of opportunities we may have available for accounting and finance students:
 
FINANCE AND TREASURY
Intern position will work in the Finance and Treasury department. Role will include support of the company treasury functions and corporate finance functions. Opportunity will include handling daily processing and reporting of cash positions, supporting corporate debt issuances, project work, as well as research department specific topics.
·        Support daily treasury activity, including management reporting
·        Engage with the Corporate Finance team to support debt issuance
·        Research trending treasury / finance topics of interest
 
FINANCIAL PLANNING AND PERFORMANCE
This position reports to the Director-Financial Performance and will be mentored by members of the Financial Performance Team. This position will support the development of the annual Evergy budget plus be involved in aspects of the monthly outlook process. 
·        Setting up budget funding projects
·        Working with operations in preparing for budget entry
·        Accumulating & assimilating monthly outlook projections
·        Support of the overall budget process
 
ENTERPRISE BUSINESS SYSTEM SOLUTIONS
Intern will participate in project related activities with functional areas and IT to modify, upgrade or develop software applications.  In addition, intern will participate in discussions and assist in implementation of new technologies such as robotic process automation (RPA).   Position will report to Jennifer Spencer, Director Enterprise Business System Support.
·        Participate in software project related discussions and activities
·        Assist in developing and implementing use cases for RPA
 
RISK MANAGEMENT
The student intern will be asked to perform a wide variety of duties to mitigate risks associated with commodities trading exposures. Tasks may include performing quantitative and qualitative evaluation of energy trading counterparty's credit quality to determine the level of risk to extend credit; assisting in the daily administration of credit risk management; participating in commodity contract administration; and other projects as available.
 
While working with Evergy's credit risk management team, the student intern will work directly on the commodity trading floor in immediate proximity with energy traders. Through such direct exposure, interns will develop an appreciation for the three significant components of commodity credit risk: (1) magnitude and volume of exposure, (2) counterparty financial strength, and (3) mitigation of credit risk through the use of contractual arrangements and forms of credit assurance.
 
Education and Experience Requirements:
Candidates must be currently enrolled in a university or technical program in one of the following or a related technical field: Finance, Risk Management, Business Administration or Accounting.
 
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required:
·        Must be dependable, self-motivated, and detail-oriented and have excellent organizational and proofreading skills. 
·        Must possess the ability to work and communicate effectively with other company personnel.
·        Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets and databases preferred. 
·        Must be able to handle multiple priorities and operate efficiently and effectively in high stress environment.
·        Position will require individual to research concepts and theories and summarize findings in a concise and professional manner.
