Assistant Loan Officer

Location: Columbia, MO, United States
At VU, we help Veterans buy homes. To make that happen, Assistant Loan Officers support Veterans and active duty service members through the loan process.
As an Assistant Loan Officer, you are people-oriented and can thrive in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment. You will often serve as the first point of contact with borrowers, helping them to understand the VA loan benefit and getting them started.
Job duties will vary upon assignment but may include:

  • Requesting and gathering borrowers’ financial information for loan documentation.
  • Educating borrowers on the loan process, risks and benefits of loan alternatives, and types of loan programs that best meet their needs.
  • Reviewing detailed documents for accuracy before advancing the loan to the next step.
  • Analyzing borrower credit for pre-approval or denial of loan applications.
These positions are ideal for someone that can balance their competitive nature with their desire to build and maintain quality relationships. You’re able to quickly bounce back from rejection and have the emotional intelligence to handle sensitive conversations with borrowers.
We’re looking for someone who can be passionate about their job and have fun doing it, who will deliver results with integrity, and who enjoys finding ways to enhance the lives of others every day.
We’ll also want to know that you can demonstrate these attributes:

  • Superior organization skills
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Proven verbal and written communication skills
  • A strong work ethic
  • The willingness and drive to become a licensed mortgage professional
  • Previous customer service or sales experience is preferred.
  • Proficient in basic computer technologies, appropriate for an internet-based company.
No previous mortgage experience is necessary and as you grow and gain experience, opportunities across the company are available to progress your career. These roles have led to positions like Loan Officer, Production Coach, and many others.
