Clinical Trial Budget Analyst

he University of Kansas Cancer Center is the region's only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center where patients gain access to the most promising therapies, cutting-edge clinical trials and world class research.

The Clinical Trial Budget Analyst performs budget development and negotiation with Pharmacy companies, as well as assist in the development of corresponding coverage analyses, for assigned clinical trials managed through the KUCC Clinical Trials Office.

Job Description:

Required Qualifications:


  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in business administration or related field.
  • Work Experience: Involvement in study budget development and/or negotiation. Previous working knowledge and experience with Pharmaceutical sponsors.
  • Skills: Attention to detail with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to work effectively under periodic stressful conditions. Ability to manage multiple tasks and set priorities and meet deadlines. Work within a team approach and be motivated to work consistently in a fast-paced, “customer-focused” environment. Excellent communication and negotiation skills. Computer literate including Microsoft Word, Excel and Access applications.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Education: Professional certification as a clinical research professional or other related certification.
  • Work Experience: Five or more years of clinical research budget development and negotiation experience. Working knowledge of Medicare Coverage guidelines and FDA regulations relevant to drugs, devices, and biologics.

Job Duties Outlined:


  • Consult with principal investigators, project directors, regulatory leads and the senior clinical trial budget analyst on budget development for new study submissions as well as budget updates resulting from protocol amendments or other changes in scope.
  • Responsible for developing and updating coverage analysis and clinical trial budget; ensure stakeholder review and agreement of draft budgets.
  • Prepare, review, and analyze financial and contractual language in documents (such as an Informed Consent Form) pertaining to patients on clinical studies.
  • Consult with other KUMC stakeholders involved with clinical research financial administration, including: KUMCRI, KU Hospital, and the University of Kansas Cancer Center to determine appropriate costing and billing of services.
  • Review contracts to assure fair terms associated with study budgets and the payment terms.
  • Input budget information into the Clinical Trial Management System (CRIS/Velos).
  • Promote a positive work environment that is maintained through open, professional and timely communication.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
