Summer Intern- Investment Operations

Position Overview

Internships give RGA Investments an opportunity to identify candidates to meet the future needs of our growing department while giving our interns valuable experience to jump start successful careers. As an intern in Investment Operations, you will participate in an intern pool, gaining exposure to each of the four teams through various projects and tasks




Responsibilities


• Research, design, develop, and implement models and tools under the guidance of experienced teammates, leveraging your skillsets and knowledge to add value to RGA

• Build automated processes to improve the efficiency of recurring tasks, freeing experienced teammates’ time to focus on greater value-added tasks

• Gain experience with industry-leading technologies, like Bloomberg and BRS Aladdin

• Use proprietary systems, purpose-built to support RGA’s innovative culture, to retrieve data and perform risk analysis

• Work alongside teammates to assist with daily activities and support project work within our derivative system (FINDUR)

• Enhance reporting to business lines that engage in derivative activity

• Experience client relationship management first hand, using software to track vendors, contracts, and visit summaries

• Process corporate actions, external trade activity, transfers, cash forecasts, and reconciliations in a live trading environment

• Improve upon documentation, like the Investments Data Warehouse Data Dictionary, to better describe the source and use of data for all of RGA Investments




Requirements

• Must be enrolled as a full-time college student at the Junior, Senior or Graduate level pursuing a degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Computer Science (or similar computer programming designation), or related degree program at an accredited university

• Strong analytical and problem solving skills are required

• The most successful interns are creative self-starters who adapt well to change

• Solid verbal and written communication skills are necessary

• Advanced skills in the following applications and/or programming languages are a plus:

• MS Office (Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint) SQL, Java, C++, R, Python

Investment Operations
The Investment Operations team includes four areas of expertise: Derivative Operations, Investment Risk and Compliance, Investment Systems Administration, and Securities Operations.

Derivative Operations
Derivatives are important risk management transactions managed within RGA Investments. The Derivative Operations team is responsible for all aspects of derivative trading at RGA, including:
  • Legal structure and compliance with internal governance
  • Transactional data integrity and reporting
  •  Model input and valuation
  • Supporting new business opportunities where derivatives are anticipated

Investment Risk and Quantitative Analysis; Investment Compliance
  •  Investment Risk and Quantitative Analysis is responsible for investment risk, performance, asset valuation, and asset analytics quality control. The team works closely with investment teams and other RGA teams on related issues.
  •  Investment Compliance is responsible for creating and maintaining rules in the compliance system to continuously monitor investment exposures relative to limits as set in investment policy documents and applicable regulations. The team partners with Portfolio Management, Corporate Compliance and Legal to research and resolve compliance issues as they may occur.

Investment Systems Administration
Investment Systems Administration is responsible for the planning, implementation, and use of technology within RGA Investments, including:
  • Daily support of investment systems’ functionality and data, including review and validation of security master files
  • First point of contact with RGA Investments for RGA’s IT department
  • Prioritization, testing, and communication of systems enhancements 
  • Management of external data and software vendors
  • Metric development to report on system risks, issues, and performance

Securities Operations
  • Confirms and settles RGA’s internal trades
  • Processes any related corporate action transactions and internal asset transfer activity
  • Ensures all externally managed activity is processed in RGA’s trading system
  • Performs daily reconciliations of each portfolio’s cash balance as well as daily par reconciliations of all positions held
