2021 Wealth & Investment Management Internship Program

Program Overview
WIM University Programs seeks to attract, develop and retain exceptional recent* college graduates to Wealth & Investment Management. Our goal is to build bench-strength as well as increase our commitment to diversity in WIM.
 
The Wells Fargo Wealth & Investment Management (WIM) Intern Program is ideal for current undergraduates interested in working in a collaborative environment which is focused on personal and professional development.
 
In the WIM Intern Program, participants will have the opportunity to understand the day-to-day responsibilities of a full-time team member, and will gain comprehensive professional and industry experience. Over the course of ten weeks, participants will gain exposure to senior leaders, participate in a community service project, benefit from coaching and performance feedback sessions, and complete a group project. WIM Interns will also participate in the Wells Fargo Enterprise Internship virtual learning series.
 
The WIM Internship Program consists of two tracks: Cross-WIM and WIM Financial Advisor (FA).
-      Cross-WIM: 25 intern positions throughout Private Wealth Management, Wells Fargo Advisors, Wells Fargo Asset Management, Wells Fargo Investment Institute, and Staff lines of businesses. Program participants gain a deeper knowledge of the financial services industry through hands-on experience in the fields of investment management, financial analytics, project management, consulting, and beyond.
-      WIM Financial Advisor: Approximately 75 intern positions across the nation which are determined by business needs: Interns located in Wells Fargo Advisors Private Client Group (PCG) and Wealth and Brokerage Services (WBS) branches mentoring under a Financial Advisor.

The WIM Intern Program offers opportunities across the business. The position locations are centered in Charlotte, St. Louis, Minneapolis and other areas of the country. Position location is determined by business need. They are tied to the business function, and are not flexible. Applicants are encouraged to be open to relocation for the summer, for which a small stipend is provided. The University Programs team will contact all confirmed hires with updates leading up to the program start in the event 2021 programming requires a virtual environment.



Private Wealth Management (Wells Fargo Private Bank and Abbot Downing): Private Wealth Management helps high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth individuals, business owners, and family offices work towards their financial dreams and goals through discovery, planning, advice, solutions, and service.
   - Wells Fargo Private Bank³ provides high-net-worth clients with a complete range of wealth solutions that include wealth planning, private banking, trust and fiduciary services, and fiduciary investment management, as well as specialized wealth services. Wells Fargo Private Bank’s mission is to build enduring relationships on a foundation of sound, thoughtful, and objective advice.
  - Abbot Downing³ serves ultra-high-net-worth multigenerational families, family offices, foundations, and endowments with investable assets of at least $50 million or net worth of $100 million. Abbot Downing strives to build long-standing relationships by helping clients preserve and grow wealth, address the impact of wealth across generations and leave a legacy of purpose.
 
Wells Fargo Advisors (WFA): Wells Fargo Advisors⁴ operates the nation’s third-largest brokerage  business with more than 13,400 full-service financial advisors in locations nationwide and referrals from nearly 5,500 licensed bankers in Well Fargo branches. WFA serves clients’ advisory, brokerage, and financial needs, including investment management and portfolio monitoring. Unprecedented choice and flexibility for financial advisors and their clients is provided through distinct business channels supported by established products, services and technology.
 
Wells Fargo Asset Management (WFAM): Wells Fargo Asset Management⁵ (WFAM) strives to help clients achieve what matters most to them on their path to financial well-being by channeling the collective wisdom of our specialized investment teams (backed by over 500 investment professionals), and with the support of our independent risk management teams, into solutions designed to help meet clients’ goals. With offices around the world, WFAM has the resources and reach to help clients across the globe—be it institutions or intermediaries whose focus on the client is akin to our own.
 
Wells Fargo Investment Institute (WFII): Wells Fargo Investment Institute (WFII) is a registered investment adviser and wholly-owned subsidiary of Wells Fargo Bank, N.A., a bank affiliate of Wells Fargo & Company. WFII is focused on delivering the highest quality investment expertise and advice to help investors manage risk and succeed financially. WFII comprises nearly 150 experienced investment professionals from across the globe focused on investment strategy, asset allocation, manager research, portfolio management, derivatives strategies, and alternative investments.
 
Wealth Client Solutions (WCS): Wealth Client Solutions is a center for banking, fiduciary, and other services across Wealth & Investment Management (WIM). WCS is designed to help WIM take product development, risk management, and innovation to the next level, based on competitive insights and client needs. It also helps us to drive growth faster and provide a better, more consistent client experience, while preserving the unique segment-based client experiences for which WIM is known. Wealth Client Solutions includes Lending & Banking Products (custom and consumer packaged); Deposits Strategy & Management; Trust & Fiduciary Services Management; Mergers & Acquisitions Business Advisory Services; and WIM Enterprise Partnerships.
 
WIM Chief Operating Office (COO): The WIM Chief Operating Office (COO) focuses on strategy, execution, governance, and support of cross-WIM programs and initiatives.
 
WIM Control: Our WIM Control group ensures all of WIM’s businesses have appropriate and effective risk controls in place to operate successfully and that all Corporate Risk programs are implemented across WIM.
 
General Responsibilities
  • Interact with leaders at all levels of the organization including senior management, team members, individual contributors and vendors.
  • Provide customer service to clients and internal team members as needed and appropriate.
  • Understand processes and work flows to make recommendations for process improvements.
  • Bring closure to issues, questions and requests. Solve problems independently.
  • Understand business needs and provide possible solutions by explaining in clear verbal and/or written communications to customers and/or management.
  • Consistently learn new systems, applications, processes and techniques.
  • Lead or participate in projects or support activities, which are moderate in size and organization span.
 
Required Qualifications
  • 1+ month professional experience through internships, part-time, or full-time work, and/or demonstrated leadership experience in a community setting


Desired Qualifications
  • Completion of coursework in Business, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Marketing, Communications, English or related field
  • Experience successfully collaborating with others in a change driven environment
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Leadership experience including; coaching, training, and mentoring
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, achieve goals, and work under pressure in a dynamic and complex environment
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of financial services industry

Other Desired Qualifications
  • Prefer an undergraduate degree with a graduation date of December 2021-June 2022*

  • Ability to travel 5% or more of the time
