5th Grade Teacher's Aide

TEACHER’S AIDE

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Teacher’s Aide shall assist the classroom teacher in achieving curriculum objectives. The aide shall also model attitudes and behavior expected of a mature, responsible Christian.

QUALIFICATIONS

High School diploma. Previous experience in a school or childcare setting preferred. Completed criminal background check (through Missouri Highway Patrol) with no adverse incidents reported. This report will be requested, at no cost to the applicant, prior to any offer of employment.

REQUIRED PERSONAL QUALITIES

1. Have received Jesus Christ as his/her personal Savior.

2. Be in agreement with the school's Statement of Faith and Christian philosophy of education.

3. Be a Christian role model in attitude, speech, integrity, courtesy, flexibility, gratitude, kindness, self-control, perseverance, punctuality, confidentiality, personal appearance (modesty), and actions toward others. This includes being committed to God's Biblical standards for sexual conduct.

4. Recognize the role of parents as primarily responsible before God for their children's education and be prepared to assist them in that task.

5. Be a member in good standing at a local, evangelical church.

6. Use acceptable English in written and oral communication. Speak with clear articulation.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES - Essential Functions

1. Reflect the purpose of the school which is to honor Christ in every class and in every activity.

2. Motivate students to accept God's gift of salvation and help them grow in their faith.

3. Lead students to a realization of their self-worth in Christ.

4. Cooperate with the Board and administration in implementing all policies, procedures, and directives governing the operation of the school.

4. Assist classroom teacher with support functions such as preparing class materials, grading papers, maintaining records, preparing bulletin board displays, etc.

5. Supervise students during recess and/or lunch periods.

7. Keep proper discipline in the classroom and on the school premises for a good learning environment.

8. Maintain a clean, attractive, well-ordered classroom.

9. Keep teacher informed of student behavior which is noteworthy (positive or negative).

10. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

11. Know the procedures for dealing with issues of an emergency nature.

Physical Requirements to Fulfill the Essential Functions

1. Site: Teacher’s Aides are required to take their students onto the playground and supervise them during outside recess. The playground is primarily a grassy area with some inclines and rocky areas. Hearing and visual acuity sufficient to supervise children spread over an area measuring 150 feet x 150 feet is necessary.

2. Facility: Students from elementary/pre-school classes are occasionally required to move about the campus to the lunchroom, library, gym, art room, restrooms, etc. Teacher’s Aides must be able to accompany students as they move from one location to another.

1. Utilize educational opportunities and evaluation processes for professional growth while striving to maintain and improve professional competence.

2. Provide input and constructive recommendations for administrative and managerial functions in the school.

3. Support the broader program of the school by attending extra-curricular activities when possible.

3. Perform any other duties which may be assigned by the administration.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $11.25 per hour
