Recreation Intern

Seasonal Recreation Internship
 
 
The City of chesterfield is accepting applications for the position of Recreation Internship.
 
Responsibilities
The Recreation Intern reports to the Recreation Manager and will assist with Recreation Programs and special events (Development, marketing, supervision and implementation); Facility Operations (Aquatic Operations, Concessions and Front Desk operations and Summer camps); Overview of Parks Maintenance Operations, Sports and Wellness Operations and complex supervision, Arts and Entertainment Event assisting and Administration (Long-range planning, Budget, Fees and Charges, Policies and Procedures, Clerical).
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assists in the planning, development, marketing and implementation of a variety of recreation programs and events;
  • Assists in the monitoring of recreation programs;
  • Assists in operational functions of Chesterfield Family Aquatic Center (I.e. Lifeguarding, Aquatic Aide, and Supervising)
  • Assists in the evaluation of facility operations;
  • Works with Recreation team to analyze pricing/expense strategies for program services;
  • Assist in the direction, supervision, and evaluation of programs;
  • Prepares special reports, analyses, and presentations;
  • Although not a direct supervisor, may provide occasional supervision;
  • Assists in the operations of the Chesterfield Family Aquatic Center, the Chesterfield Valley Athletic Complex, and the Chesterfield Amphitheater;
  • Assists with program contracts;
  • Assists in the maintenance and repair of all park equipment, tools, and supplies;
  • Assists in turf maintenance programs for a high-quality sports complex, parks and beautification areas;
  • Performs a wide range of duties associated with the maintenance and operation of an athletic facility;
  • Assists other divisions and departments during emergencies and is on-call to respond;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
 
Knowledge
Knowledge of principles and practices associated with recreation and special event programming, marketing, maintenance and operations of parks, and recreation facilities, working knowledge of personnel management, contract management, grounds and facility management, capital improvement project development, and budget/financial management, and computer registration system.
Skills
Must be able to adeptly handle multiple priorities, problems, and demanding situations; possess strong written and oral communication skills; be able to look toward the future, while dealing with the demands of the present; possess strong planning and organizational skills; be knowledgeable of current trends, resources, legislation, and funding sources; be creative and proactive, yet politically sensitive; possess a strong customer service orientation; and be a team player.
Abilities
Ability to work indoors and outdoors with long and varied hours such as days, nights, weekends and holidays. Must be able to bend, kneel, stoop, reach and lift. Must be able to stand for extended periods of time and sit or stand at a desk up to fifty percent of the day in a busy, close office environment where noise and interruptions prevail. May be required to move tables, chairs, cabinets, equipment, supplies, etc. to maximum of 50 pounds. Must be able to work with potentially dangerous chemicals and equipment. Requires alertness, precision, memory, concentration, judgement, reasoning, patience, problem solving, and imagination. Must be quality minded safety conscious, people and service oriented, a team player and self-starter.
Minimum Education, Certification and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent required with substantial course work from an accredited college or university towards a Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Parks and Recreation Administration, Facility Management, Sports Management, and/or a closely related field. Must have a valid Driver’s license and a safe driving record.
 
Compensation: $10.50 per hour
