Natural Resource Steward Seasonal Position

Maintain and protect the ecology of the park’s woodlands and prairies through invasive plant control of several species of trees, vines and herbaceous plants throughout the park using methods that include pulling, hand tools, herbicide application, backpack spraying, weed eater brush blade and chainsaw work. Tasks include plant identification, map reading and hiking off-trail. Additional duties could include preparing fire lines by operating a tractor with brush hog and/or moving down wood. Applicants must be able to handle the physical nature of the work and being exposed to insects, briers, rough terrain, etc. Work with other staff most of the time and sometimes by yourself. Acquire training and get to see and learn about the flora, fauna and ecology of the park.
 
Pay rate of about $10.30/hour. We will be hiring five people. Scheduling is somewhat flexible: could start right away or by mid-May. Positions are expected to last to mid-August with the possibility of extending part-time into the fall. Hours can be either full-time or part-time.
