Communication Assistant - School of Health Professions

The MU School of Health Professions has a mission to improve the health and well-being of others through teaching, research, health care and service. The strategic communication and marketing office supports this mission by increasing the visibility of Health Professions’ people and programs. We craft communications that help create and maintain the school’s culture and foster a sense of belonging for students, faculty and staff.
 
The ideal candidate is passionate about telling stories in creative ways, able to appropriately adapt a story’s content for different mediums, has an eagle’s eye for AP Style and grammatical errors, and wants their work to be accurate above all else. They feel comfortable interviewing Health Professions students, faculty and alumni, and are able to quickly deliver a news story and social media posts based on those interviews. Bonus points to candidates who love to write snappy copy for ads, brochures and the web; have an eye for editorial design; or are a master at creating multimedia content. You know that content has to look good and effectively convey a message.
 
As a student, you have a unique perspective on what communications strategies will keep Health Professions students engaged with our content – we want your ideas early and often. You will be part of a collaborative team and expected to attend strategy meetings and contribute during them.
 
Position duties:
·        Create content, edit and schedule social media posts across several channels
·        Write copy and prepare or collect graphics for email newsletters
·        Create and edit content for the School of Health Professions website and publications
·        Interview students, faculty and staff, and create news and feature stories
·        Collect analytics and prepare timely and useful reports to help inform our communication strategies

Minimum requirements:
·        Must be an enrolled University of Missouri student.
·        Experience writing and editing to AP Style
·        Ability to adapt messaging for multi-channel communication
·        Collaborative team player
·        Excellent time management and organizational skills 
·        Excellent written communication skills and strong attention to detail
·        Ability to meet deadlines and work quickly efficiently without sacrificing accuracy or quality of work
·        Ability to begin work no later than August 2021

Preferred qualifications:
·        Understanding of trending topics and overall social and content landscape
·        Familiarity with WordPress or other content management systems
·        Eye for visual design and familiarity with web-based design software, such as Adobe Spark or Canva, or multimedia storytelling experience
·        Ability to work through the summer
