Jumpstart Leadership Team Positions (job or graduate assistantship)

Overview
There are 4 positions available for Jumpstart, which partners with local preschools to offer tutoring for children, and in some cases, no-cost quality afterschool care. In addition to their service with children, members also participate in a variety of community service events throughout the year. Jumpstart members are proud to be a part of AmeriCorps, a national service organization committed to making a difference in communities across our nation.


Approximately 20 hours per week; 10 month positions beginning in August and ending in May. Student must file FAFSA and qualify for work study.

Compensation
All position will be compensated one of two ways:
-Assistantship to graduate students. Benefits include a full tuition waiver, $1682 monthly stipend, and $1340 AmeriCorps Education Award. The opportunity for the tuition waiver and GA wage are dependent on your academic department.
-Part-time job to graduate students. Benefits include hourly wage of $18 per hour and $1280 AmeriCorps Education Award.

Positions available:




Team Leader

Jumpstart is an early childhood intervention program. A Team Leader manages 5-7 college student tutors to provide educational tutoring to at-risk preschool children. Responsibilities include planning and implementing effective Jumpstart sessions with children and tutors; coaching tutors on the use of Jumpstart curriculum and developmentally appropriate interactions with young children; and facilitation of team meetings. In addition, Team Leaders provide training and oversee team administration. Playing a variety of roles including coach, trainer, and observer, Team Leaders are essential to ensuring the high quality of the Jumpstart program. Training is provided to Team Leaders to fulfill all responsibilities.

This position requires availability Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 2:00-7:30, and Fridays 8:45-11:45. These hours are required for both fall and spring semesters. Applicants must have reliable transportation. (Approximately 20 hours per week; 10 month position beginning in August and ending in May). Student must file FAFSA and qualify for work study.


Volunteer Coordinator

The Jumpstart volunteer coordinator is primarily responsible for planning and implementing service projects, recruiting and placing outside volunteers to serve, fundraising, and promotion of the program. Some responsibilities will include;

Teaching & Training
  • Facilitate and support orientation and training related to service for Jumpstart members, service learning students, and outside volunteers
Recruitment, Event Planning & Implementation
  • Collaborate with program partners to implement service projects
  • Partner with relevant community organizations to coordinate service opportunities for Jumpstart members and outside volunteers
  • Plan and implement approximately 50 events
Research, Administration, Evaluation & Tracking, Marketing, Promotion
  • Present Jumpstart to campus and local community organizations, student groups, faculty, and staff to collaborate for service events and/or secure in-kind donations
  • Actively seek media coverage for events
  • Create and distribute newsletter
Fundraising
  • Research and seek potential sources of in-kind support including grants
  • Approach businesses to secure in-kind donations (approximately 75 donations)
Communication & Appreciation
  • Communicate regularly with Jumpstart members, outside volunteers, and a variety of other groups/individuals through meetings, phone and e-mail


Project Coordinator A

The Jumpstart Project Coordinator position is open to students who are work study recipients. The Project Coordinator works with the Site Manager to oversee the administrative areas of the program. The Project Coordinator must have reliable transportation. Project Coordinators serve part-time, and a minimum of 740 hours during the school year.

Responsibilities
Future Teachers
  • Assist with preparing training materials
·         Teach undergraduate students member file completion & time tracking systems
·         Ensure completion of all file requirements trainings for all members
Research & Evaluation
  • Participate in aspects of research implementation, when applicable
Data Entry
  • Maintain Jumpstart, AmeriCorps, and University databases including the following:
  • MU Time & Labor
  • Work-Study
  • E-Grants
  • SAM
  • OnCorps
  • BSIU Child Abuse and Neglect Screening
  • Member Retention Project
  • Ensure information in all databases is accurate, complete, and up-to-date
  • Create and maintain list serve and contact lists
  • Prepare and distribute member hours updates
  • Provide accurate and timely reports to members and Site Managers
Time Trackers
·         Preparing member time trackers for completion
·                     Checking service records for accuracy
File Maintenance & Audit
  • Conduct weekly audit of member files
  • Maintain Jumpstart & AmeriCorps files for each member
Recruitment
  • Assist with interviewing of potential members
Staff Communication
  • Attend weekly Leadership Team meetings
  • Attend weekly meetings with Site Manager
  • Send emails to members as necessary
  • Meet with members on an individual basis, when applicable
Member Morale         
  • Create member spotlights
  • Prepare and distribute birthday bags throughout the year
  • Pick-up Harold’s Doughnuts and communicate with the corps about Doughnut days
Mizzou Pals
  • Provide coverage for Mizzou Pals in case of absence. This includes interacting with children and families and general classroom support.
  • This is a required substitute shift- if/when needed on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3pm-6pm. The only exception is if a class schedule conflicts.
Other
  • Maintain cleanliness of the cubicle
  • Participate in one football concession stand service to support Jump into Fun Adventure Pack program
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Site Manager


Project Coordinator B

The Jumpstart Project Coordinator position is open to students who are work study recipients. The Project Coordinator works with the Site Manager to oversee the administrative areas of the program. The Project Coordinator must have reliable transportation. Project Coordinators serve part-time, and a minimum of 740 hours during the school year.

Responsibilities
Research & Evaluation
  • Participate in aspects of research implementation, when applicable

Inventory, Creation, Organization, & Purchasing of Supplies
  • Gather, create, and purchase supplies for Jumpstart events (kick-off event, trainings, etc.)
  • Plan and manage Jump Into Fun Adventure Packs program
  • Create, maintain, and distribute member gear (lanyards, binders, shirts)
  • Create namecards & journals for each Jumpstart child
  • Copy session plans and gather books for full staff meeting and book prep each week
  • Manage weekly session materials for Jumpstart teams
  • Creation of session materials (posters, handouts, center tents, etc.)
  • Communicate with Members/TLs/VC/SM regarding supply requests
  • Purchase session supplies, training materials, and office supplies
  • Plan and manage Special Opportunity Projects (SOP’s) for members
  • Manage inventory and organization of session materials, maintain inventory databases

Data Entry
  • Ensure information in all databases is accurate, complete, and up-to-date

Recruitment
  • Assist with recruitment of members including interviewing and tabling

Staff Communication
  • Attend and report updates at weekly leadership team meetings
  • Attend weekly meetings with Site Manager

Mizzou Pals
  • Provide coverage for Mizzou Pals in case of absence. This includes interacting with children and families and general classroom support.

  • Facilitate Jump Into Fun events throughout the school year, including occasional weekend dates
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Site Managers
