Analyst, Commodities & Risk Management
POSITION PURPOSE:
The purpose of this job is to be responsible to assist with the designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining a tracking and reporting system for all commodities and risk management activities for REG. This position is also responsible to serve in a consultancy and support role to the Operations Control Team, Procurement, and Sales group regarding risk management activities and the subsequent impact upon financial position and reporting requirements.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Key Accountabilities:
Risk Management Functions
- Analyze and monitor REG’s positions (biofuel and petroleum-related, co-products, etc.) and risk management limits
- Recommend actions to take based upon reported position levels as needed
- Assist with implementation, oversight, and reporting regarding the Risk Management Policy
- Work closely with the Operations Control Team, Procurement, Sales, and the Accounting teams to ensure compliance and proper execution of the overall risk management for REG
Research Function
- Research, define, and implement internal control policies and procedures that can be utilized for commodities purchasing, sales and risk management activities
- Enhance and further develop reporting tools that will capture, organize, and account for commodity hedge and derivative positions for GAAP reporting
- Develop and review financial models for commodity hedge positions relating to projections and gross margin analysis
- Track and analyze commodity hedge transactions, including realized and unrealized gains and losses
Report Generation
- Enter, track, and monitor hedge trading activities via supporting applications
- Provide daily, weekly, and monthly reports per business specific needs
- Facilitate the tracking, review, and distribution of sales and/or purchasing contract reports
- Assist with report generation for Board of Directors and Risk Management Committee
Business Project Support
- Conduct and properly document research and findings
- Analyze and support research results
- Formulate a recommendation based upon team’s analysis
Other frequent duties:
- Document hedge accounting and review reconciliations for normal purchase/normal sale items
- Coordinate projects with external auditors
- Special projects as assigned
Perform other duties as assigned
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education Required: 4 year bachelor’s degree – Accounting, Finance, or related degree
**FAS 133 expertise a plus
Experience Required: 1-3 years of business, finance, or accounting experience or educational equivalent.
Skills Required:
Advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUP, Macros)
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Extensive math, algebraic, logic, and accounting skills
Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Excellent presentation, analytical, and problem-solving/trouble-shooting skills
