Food Safety & Quality Assurance Intern

    I.    Job Summary
Internship opportunity for a Food Science or Applied Science major to immerse themselves in learning and assisting in the process of performing internal audits, product sensory, as well supporting with supplier management within our QMS portal.   II.    Essential Duties and Responsibilities
·      Support team completing with weekly walkthrough of distribution center and communicate any potential food safety/food quality and/or sanitation issues to QA Manager.
·      Support with daily preparation of product(s) scheduled for sensory review.
·      Support with completing AQL inspections as assigned.
·      Support with updating pertinent supplier information stored in QMS portal.
·      Support with preparation and packing of product(s) scheduled to be shipped to our Corporate Office, Corporate Laboratory, etc.
·      Support with calibration and record keeping of measuring tools (i.e. thermometers, pH meter, Brookfield, etc.).
·      Support with administrative duties (i.e. archiving records, organization of QA binders, etc.)
 
 III.    Education and Experience
·      Current college student in Food Science, Meat Science or Applied Science field.
·      Experience (i.e. prior internship or work experience in a food or laboratorial environment, etc.) preferred however, not required.
 
 IV.    Skills
·      Fluent in the English language is required.
·      Fluent in the Spanish language is desired.
·      Valid driver’s license with acceptable driver history required.
·      Must have excellent organizational skills with a high degree of initiative and flexibility.
·      Must have ability to multi-task in fast paced environment with limited supervision
·      Must have good oral/written communication skills
·      Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
·      Must be able to read, create and analyze process charts, graphs, and logs. 
·      General math skills
 
   V.    Physical Demands
·      Must be able to lift overhead up to 30 pounds.
·      Must be able to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time.
·      Must be able to periodically work in a cold environment (≤40F).
·      Must possess sufficient senses to perform effective organoleptic evaluations (corrected sensory ability is acceptable). This includes visual (acuity and color differentiation), olfactory, gustatory, tactile, and auditory ability.
