Summer 2022 Merchandising Internship

From research to idea and concept to reality, our merchants are driven to deliver what our customers want now … and want next. Our merchants possess deep customer insights, understand the speed and agility necessary to compete and foster strong relationships with internal partners such as marketing, planning, development, and visual as well as outside vendors. Design, color, product assortment and placement – it’s all the little decisions that make a big difference in whether or not our customers say, “I’ll take it!” 

The 10-week Merchant Internship Program will provide an opportunity to learn about merchandising within a retail environment with on-the-job experiences, with a goal of an offer for the 2022 Merchant-in-training Program upon completion of the internship. During the program, Interns participate in an immersive learning environment using several methods, including: shadowing merchants, attending training courses focused on professional development, working in local BBW stores, and building and refining presentation skills. 
 
RESPONSIBILITIES: 
 
As a Merchant Intern, you will learn and apply various tasks and processes, including, but not limited to: 
  • Execution of the product development process from conception to in-store/online launch 
  • Developing a line plan that represents the Brand and is aligned with the seasonal merchandise strategy 
  • Preparing competitive intelligence, customer intimacy, fashion radar and business analysis to achieve volume and profit goals 
  • Conducting in-depth financial research and analysis including sales, margin, inventory and mark-down analysis 
  • Maintaining sample status and quality 
  • Conducting in-store visits to gain customer and product insights 
 
 
QUALIFICATIONS: 
 
To be considered for the Merchant Internship Program, the following qualifications are desired: 
  • University juniors currently pursuing their Bachelor’s Degree 
  • Must be able to work 40 hours per week during summer 
  • Innate curiosity or a true entrepreneurial risk mentality, strong analytical and strategic thinking skills
  • Computer savvy with programs such as Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel
  • Achievement orientated and demonstrated leadership potential 
  • Ability to manage through conflict and problem-solve 
  • Strong communication, presentation, negotiating and influencing skills 
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize
