Quality Assurance Specialist

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Maintain regulatory programs (SSOPs & SOPs), verifying that they are properly implemented, understood, routinely assessed, improved upon, and well maintained.
  • Work with R&D and Marketing to execute a sensory testing program.
  • Work closely with the new product development group on product formulation from a regulatory perspective.
  • Ensure that GMPs and food safety procedures are understood, instilled at all levels of employment, and monitored throughout all areas of the facility and levels of employment.
  • Complete customer paperwork and regulatory documents as it pertains to food safety and quality, when requested.
  • Maintain the nutritional program to ensure compliance with USDA and FDA labeling regulations.
  • Perform/obtain USDA label approvals and remain up to date on label law changes
  • Work closely with marketing and sales to meet the needs of customer requests and specifications.
  • Maintain the compliance system for the quality department. Create, modify, and ensure compliance for all QC checks.
  • Instill ownership to departmental functions by involving them with responses to NCRs, HACCP deviations, SSOP non-compliances, GMP infractions, etc.
  • Update product specifications and packaging/manufacturing instructions as needed.
  • Maintain documentation of deviations and ensure tasks get assigned/completed appropriately.
  • Perform Quality Technician duties as needed.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.

Candidate Qualifications:
  • Four-year degree from college or university, science degrees preferred.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, and procedural manuals
  • Strong computer skills in utilizing an ERP system and Microsoft Suites.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
  • Must be available for outside traveling as required (typically for training purposes).
  • Industry Experience considered a plus.
  • Experience with Smartsheets a plus.
  • HACCP certification a plus.
