Reading Specialist

About the role
The Reading Specialist will have the responsibility for providing intervention that improves student achievement in reading and composition skills, with an overall goal of advancing the academic skills needed for success. They will cultivate a student-centered environment which fosters relationships and promotes continual growth for students and staff.

In this role, you’ll love
  • Inspiring students to strengthen their reading skills
  •  Collaborating with teachers and the Special Services team to identify children who have reading difficulties, and to assist those children in developing their abilities
  • Serving as a reading consultant and a reading resource person
  • Creating an environment that demonstrates rapport with, respect, and kindness for all students as well as between students
  • Engaging deeply with students, teachers, staff and families as partners

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education; Master’s degree preferred
  • Missouri Teacher Certification (not Substitute Certification)

Responsibilities
  • Works with the Special Services team to identify, diagnose and assist children who have reading difficulties
  • Provides targeted reading instruction for identified students
  • Monitors students’ progress and provides frequent updates to staff and parents
  • Adapts instructional techniques to meet the diverse needs of individual students
  • Helps ensure the learning environment is dynamic and conducive to high-level learning
  • Assists in the establishment and development of reading curriculum
  • Participates in school functions, including but not limited to Parent/Guardian Conferences,
  • Open Houses, Transition Nights, Curriculum Nights, Family Orientations and the Family Field Day

Compensation
This position offers a salary ranging from $38,250 to $44,500 based on
level of education and years of teaching experience.
