2022-23 Family and Community Coordinator

REPORTS TO: Site Administration

Position Summary
The Family and Community Coordinator acts as a liaison between families and the school to enhance positive family and community involvement with the school. They actively seek out and engage families in programs and activities to build their connection with the school, to empower them to advocate on their student’s behalf, and to improve student achievement. The Family and Community Coordinator actively participates in and contributes to a collaborative, results-oriented professional learning community. They engage community partners and families in serving the whole child and ensure ALL children achieve at high levels prepared to succeed in any setting. They will know how to successfully work in an urban school with a high English Learner and low-income population.

Responsibilities
  • Help the school to develop a family-friendly school climate in cooperation with the principal, teachers, and other staff
  • Develop programs and activities designed to empower students and their families and to engage families in improving student achievement
  • Help teachers and families develop strong partnerships and enhance communication between parents/families and school staff
  • Develop strong relationships with families with a particular focus on families of struggling students
  • Conduct at least seven (7) one-to-one visits with parents/families every week
  • Coordinate monthly Family Leadership Council (FLC) meetings and participate in EFC-wide FLC activities
  • Support with School Attendance Review Team meetings (SART)
  • Presentation and translation of events, activities, committees, etc
  • Host weekly parent workshops and classes
  • Availability for evening and weekend events
  • Attend EFC Network wide Family/Community Coordinator Professional Learning Community
  • Help to recruit community partners to become part of the school’s family involvement program and to bring services and programs to the school
  • Maintain a positive and welcoming family resource center with access to resources and programs
  • Build family/parent capacity to monitor and track student progress data through the parent portal
  • Take part in opportunities for professional development
  • Attend mandatory new hire professional development

Required Qualifications
  • Must possess a growth mindset and be able to use feedback to refine practice 
  • Experience or strong interest in K-12 public education
  • Understands class and cultural backgrounds of families and how to interpret culture of school to them 
  • Thinks and acts in ways that respects ethnic, cultural and language diversity
  • Communicates successfully with teachers, families, administrators, and students 
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with an ability to communicate with various constituencies and to work comfortably with a variety of staff at all levels within the organization
  • Strong computer skills including word, excel and creation of powerpoints and presentations
  • Proactive, independent thinker, goal oriented
  • Excellent team player with a high degree of willingness to be hands-on and do whatever it takes to support the success of Education for Change 
  • Spanish bilingual
