The Program
Mallinckrodt is offering an 11-week internship program, which provides an immersive experience in the world of pharmaceuticals. As an MNK Intern, you will have the opportunity to contribute to meaningful and impactful work that compliments the degree you are pursuing. Here, you will be able to apply what you’ve learned in the classroom to a corporate environment. In addition, our internship program is designed to include networking opportunities across the company, professional development workshops, and community service.

Summary of Position
The Synthetic Chemist I Intern position will work with the Lifecycle Management (LCM) team to synthesize and characterize reference standard material for MNK’s internal Reference Standards Program. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • The role includes setting up equipment/glassware and following experimental parameters for the successful synthesis and purification of at least one reference standard material, and characterization of the material using analytical techniques such as HPLC, NMR and Mass Spectrometry. 
  • Expectations for the role include working effectively with LCM team members; documenting experiments, conditions, observations and results in a laboratory notebook; and compliance with company, site and safety policies and procedures.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
  • The completion of some coursework toward a degree in chemistry.

Experience:
  • Hands-on laboratory experience and working knowledge in organic and analytical chemistry are preferred

Skills/Qualifications:
  • Ability to wear appropriate PPE and safely handle chemicals, glassware and laboratory equipment are required. 

RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHERS:
This position will interact with other members of the LCM team.  This position does not have direct reports.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
The role will involve typical laboratory conditions where chemists are required to wear eye protection and lab coats; might potentially handle hazardous chemicals requiring the use of additional PPE’.  May occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.
