Environmental/Wetland Scientist

Emmons & Olivier Resources, Inc. (EOR) has an opening for an Environmental/Wetland Scientist in the Peoria, Rockford, or Chicago areas of Illinois. EOR is an engineering and environmental consulting firm that specializes in: WATER (watersheds + water resources), ECOLOGY (ecosystems, natural resources + renewable energy) and COMMUNITY (civil engineering, landscape architecture + planning).

Brief Description:

This position will support a team of engineers and scientists with environmental permitting and design, as well as resource inventory and assessment, for work with renewable energy and utility clients, along with other types of innovative projects of varying scale. The ideal candidate has prior consulting experience working on utility development projects and a sound overall knowledge of applicable regulatory programs. Must thrive in a small company environment, which requires a well-rounded skill set, the ability to multitask, and the desire to explore innovative designs, processes, and ideas. Candidate should be detail orientated and able to both work independently and collaboratively with large teams. Wetland science/delineation, hydrology, and soil science backgrounds are also desirable.

Education/Experience requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in environmental science, natural resources, or other physical/biological sciences field
  • 1-3 years of experience conducting field work, including ecological field studies, archaeological/cultural resource studies, habitat assessment, and wetland delineations
  • 1-3 years of experience and/or strong technical background in permitting energy projects

Education/Experiences preferred:

  • Working towards or in possession of a Professional Wetland Scientist certification 
  • At least 1 year of experience with being a wetland lead for projects using the 1987 Corps of Engineers Wetland Delineations Manual and Regional Supplement(s)
  • Experience working with environmental, regulatory and land use agencies, such as: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Public Utility Commissions (PUC), state departments (such as Illinois Department of Natural Resources), and State Historic Preservation Offices
  • Ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions and on challenging terrain
  • Ability to work occasional weekends and occasionally over 40 hours per week
  • GIS experience highly preferred 
  • Project Management experience a plus

Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to conduct occasional field work (usually 1-2 days/week in growing season)
