Cattle Operations College Internship
Mershon Cattle LLC is a commercial beef cattle operation based in Buckner, Mo., near Kansas City. Our cow-calf operation retains ownership to harvest. The home farm consists of a small feedlot, pasture ground, and a hoop barn operation. A unique Pasture Program allows Mershon Cattle to manage additional herds at multiple farms around the western Missouri region. Our herd consists of Angus based, cross-bred cows.
The care and welfare of our heard is a high priority. We practice low-stress handling, and we are Beef Quality Assurance Certified. Job Responsibilities
This internship is for college students who are junior class status or higher. The cattle operations intern will be working in a large commercial beef cattle operation alongside the Mershon Cattle and Mershon Farm team. Outcomes include: will learn, participate in and observe the daily oversight, care and feeding of our cow-calf program. Secondly, have an opportunity to observe and potentially work on breeding and general cattle records using Excel and learning about our system for tracking data.
This is a fulltime paid internship. Candidate will work mid-May through early August, depending on their schedule. Housing is not included. Transportation is needed.
Junior class college student or graduate student required. • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in an animal science or agriculture-related major. • Knowledge of cattle nutrition and guidelines, animal health and care to ensure that cattle are raised in a high-quality environment. • Experience in caring for and working with cattle, and on a grain farm • Ability to operate large farm machinery including tractors and combine • Regularly lift 50 lbs. or greater • Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record required
