Geographic Information System (GIS) Intern

The Village of Wilmette is seeking self-motivated individuals with positive work ethics to fill the GIS Internship position in the Engineering & Public Works Department. This position will work 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday for up to 12 weeks during the summer.


General Responsibilities
The GIS Intern works under the general direction of the Water and Sewer Superintendent and will assist in building out the Public Works GIS Database. As an Intern, you will be utilizing Collector for ArcGIS to create and maintain digital data layers. Tasks include, but are not limited to, updating the spatial locations of built infrastructure, maintaining data information through related tables, extracting data from various sources, and database management; and other related tasks as assigned.


Position Requirements
The successful candidate will be enrolled in an Engineering, Urban Planning, Geography or a similar college program. The candidate must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with strong customer service skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, and ESRI products such as ArcGIS Desktop 10x, ArcGIS Online and Collector are preferred. Position requires frequent work outdoors and extensive walking. Candidates will be required to provide their own safety boots; all other PPE will be provided by the Village.


Pay and Benefit
The starting hourly rate is $19.13 and 8 hours of paid time off (PTO). After the initial 320 hours of time worked, an additional hour of PTO will be earned for every additional 40 hours worked. Selection Process
The hiring process will entail an interview with members of Public Works. A candidate who receives a conditional offer of employment will need to successfully complete a pre-employment physical to include a drug and alcohol screening, reference checks, and a driver’s license record verification.
