Job Description

The Aquatic Lead’s primary responsibility is to help maintain safety, order, cleanliness, and organization within the Mizzou Aquatic Center. The individual must demonstrate initiative to solve problems and the drive to work in & lead teams. They must also demonstrate strong communication skills with supervisors, peers, and direct reports. 

Essential Functions

  • Ensure member and guest safety by enforcing and communicating all Aquatic Center, MizzouRec, and University policies and procedures.
  • Recognize & respond quickly and effectively to emergencies by carrying out the emergency action plan (EAP) for the Mizzou Aquatic Center.
  • Answer questions by providing accurate information regarding the Mizzou Aquatic Center, such as pool hours, upcoming events, and available space.
  • Responsible for providing excellent customer service through addressing and resolving member and guest requests and concerns.
  • Responsible for building security during assigned opening and closing shifts which include but are not limited to opening/closing facility on-time, checking water chemical levels, maintaining facility cleanliness, keeping radios operational, ensuring pool vacuum is used and properly stored.
  • Responsible for assisting with the chemical operation of the Aquatic Center and notifying the Aquatic Coordinator when supplies are limited, or water chemistry readings differ from the prescribed levels.
  • Inspect facility daily and report any unsafe conditions and equipment to Aquatic Coordinator or Facility Coordinator.
  • Document all accidents and incidents reports and communicate to the Aquatic Coordinator and Facility Coordinator on Duty.
  • Ensure acceptable staff coverage for all assigned shifts by helping lifeguards with the rotation as well as assigning lifeguards cleaning duties.
  • Responsible for completing Lifeguarding Audits and providing input for Lifeguard JPA’s.
  • Maintain an accurate Communication Log during scheduled shifts to inform other Aquatic Leads and Aquatic Staff of facility & staffing updates.
  • Attend scheduled Aquatic Lead meetings and in-services.
  • Assist facility and programming staff as needed.
  • Adhere to all University, MizzouRec, Team Mizzou, and area specific guidelines.
  • As with all positions, involvement with other duties and responsibilities is expected in order to serve the customer and maintain the MizzouRec mission.

Anticipated Hiring Range

$13.50 per hour, paid on a bi-weekly basis

Shift

Anticipated hours per week: 12

This position is responsible for coverage during all hours of aquatic facility operation. Hours adjust based on semester and holidays. Hours may include early mornings, late evenings, and weekends.

Minimum Qualifications

To be eligible for a student title, an individual must be enrolled at the University of Missouri. Enrollment in the summer session is not required as long as the student was enrolled in the Spring semester and is pre-enrolled for the Fall semester. 

Selection is contingent upon successful results of an Office for Civil Rights &Title IX and Office of Student Accountability & Support check, MU employment history check, and review by the office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently certified in American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED or equivalent certification.
  • Preferred experience of 2 semesters or more as MizzouRec Lifeguard.
  • Maintain ability to perform all necessary skills in accordance with American Red Cross Lifeguarding and MizzouRec standards.
  • Basic risk-management & safety-mindedness in an aquatic facility safety.
  • Ability to work two or more semesters within the department.
