Writing, Photography, or Multimedia Intern
The editorial team at COMO Companies is currently seeking writing and photography/videography interns for the spring of 2024. We are looking for enthusiastic, creative, and driven candidates with a passion for all things local.
We would love to have multimedia-skilled interns who excel in both written communication and visual storytelling skills; however, we encourage anyone who meets the requirements of either position to apply!
Interns will have the opportunity to have their work published in COMO Magazine and COMO Business Times (print and online) and used on our social media. They will also be exposed to professional connections within and outside of the office and gain valuable knowledge of the marketing and/or publishing industry.
This is a 12-week unpaid internship with college credit available. To qualify, applicants must be at least a junior in college, a recent college grad, or currently in grad school.
The chosen candidate(s) must have dependable transportation and exhibit dependable, timely communication skills during the internship. We ask that writing interns dedicate a minimum of 10 hours per week to their work, with at least 5 being spent in the office.
Mandatory (multimedia interns should exhibit a combination of these):
For writers:
• Good written storytelling skills.
• Great communication skills and ability to interact well with editorial staff and the public.
• An interest in crafting stories on a variety of subjects, such as local nonprofits, innovative technology, style favorites, health and social issues, and current events.
Description:
• Can expect 2-3 assignments at any given time (Max 1200 word count each).
•Assist in writing blogs as needed (500-word count).
•Assist in researching story ideas.
•The opportunity to attend staff meetings and content planning meetings.
For photographers/videographers:
• Good visual storytelling skills.
• Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and video editing platforms.
• Ability to write cleanly and create engaging captions and collect names and model release(s) of subject(s).
• Knowledge of studio lighting.
• Prior photo/video internships are a plus.
Description:
• Generate and execute timely photo/video assignments for magazine or social media content.
• Use Adobe Photoshop/other platforms to edit photos/videos
• Organize and sort raw videos and edit them.
*Photography candidates will be required to use their own cameras, lenses, memory cards, and batteries. However, if you have a newer phone with a good camera, this may work just as well.
