Seeking Legislative Intern for Missouri State Senator Nick Schroer
Location: Office #227, Missouri State Capitol, Jefferson City, MO
Duration: Early January to Mid-May 2025 (Flexible based on academic schedule)
Time Commitment: 8-24 hours a week
Description:
Join the office of Senator Nick Schroer as a Legislative Intern and gain valuable, hands-on experience in state government, public policy, and constituent services. This internship offers a unique opportunity to work closely with legislative staff and learn about the inner workings of the Missouri Senate while serving the residents of the 2nd Senate District. In coordination with the House of Representatives, the Missouri Senate will coordinate activities throughout the year designed to enhance an intern’s experience, such as group meetings with statewide officials, mock sessions, and tours of the supreme court and other points of interests throughout state government.
Responsibilities:
· Research and analyze legislative issues, policies, and proposals.
· Draft memos, reports, and correspondence for the Senator and staff.
· Assist in planning and organizing events, including meetings and public appearances.
· Attend committee hearings and legislative sessions, providing detailed summaries.
· Manage constituent inquiries, casework, and correspondence.
· Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate discretion with sensitive information.
· Perform general office duties, including answering phones, organizing documents, giving tours, and assisting the Senator and other staff as needed.
Requirements:
Successful candidates must possess the following qualifications:
1. Education: Enrolled in or recently graduated from an undergraduate or graduate program, preferably in political science, public administration, law, communications, or related fields.
2. Professionalism: A strong sense of loyalty, discretion, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
3. Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail.
4. Research Abilities: Proficiency in conducting thorough research and summarizing findings concisely.
5. Technical Skills: Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, OpenAI, and other relevant software.
6. Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively with others while also managing independent tasks efficiently.
7. Time Management: Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
8. Policy Interest: A passion for public policy, government operations, and serving the community.
9. Adaptability: A willingness to take on varied tasks and learn quickly on the job.
10. Ethics: Commitment to upholding high ethical standards and reflecting positively on the office of Senator Schroer.
