Job Description

Summary
TigerSwim Leads assist with preparation, execution, and evaluation of each TigerSwim session, while continuing the general duties of a TigerSwim Instructor. Candidates must have previous experience as a TigerSwim Instructor prior to applying for the TigerSwim Lead position. The TigerSwim Lead position requires exceptional leadership skills, organization skills, and takes pride in the quality of their work. TigerSwim Leads will also assist with the scheduling, supervising, training and evaluation of TigerSwim Instructors.  Leads must demonstrate initiative and attention to detail. American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification is recommended but not required.

Essential Functions

  • Assist the Aquatic Coordinator with the scheduling of TigerSwim Instructors
  • Assist the Aquatic Coordinator in creating and assigning TigerSwim Instructor group level assignments, year round
  • Assist the Aquatic Coordinator in creating and assigning TigerSwim Instructor private lesson assignments, year round
  • Communicate effectively to all TigerSwim participants and respectfully handle any program questions, concerns, or complaints about the TigerSwim program
  • Demonstrate understanding of good customer service
  • Responsible for turning on and off features in the Tiger Grotto and Diving Well before and after lessons
  • Ensure TigerSwim Instructors complete the skill sheets after each lesson
  • Ensure TigerSwim Instructors successfully complete TigerSwim report cards 1 day prior to lessons ending
  • Assists in the water, instructing group lessons, as needed
  • Attend and assist with all staff meetings, training/in-services
  • Provide constructive feedback to TigerSwim Instructors
  • Be available to instruct private lessons

Anticipated Hiring Range

$14.75 per hour paid on a biweekly basis

Shift

Average hours per week: 10

This position may require evening and weekend hours supporting activities and programs within the department. Occasionally division and campus projects may require additional hours outside of your normal schedule.

Minimum Qualifications

To be eligible for a student title, an individual must be enrolled at the University of Missouri. Enrollment in the summer session is not required if the student was enrolled in the Spring semester and is pre-enrolled for the Fall semester. Selection is contingent upon results of a review with the Office of Institutional Equity, Office of Student Accountability & Support, Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, previous MU appointment history, and reference checks. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in teaching group and private lessons within TigerSwim Program
  • Experience in teaching group and private lessons
  • Valid American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification (WSI)
  • Valid American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED certification
