Peer Financial Coach

What you'll gain from becoming a Peer Financial Coach:

This position allows students to gain professional experiences assisting individuals and groups with financial education. Peer Financial Coaches are integral to the OFS’ mission promoting greater financial well-being.

While a finance-related major is not a requirement for this position, Peer Coaches in related majors have the opportunity to gain creditable work experience for the Accredited Financial Counselor® (AFC®) and Certified Financial Planner® (CFP®) designations. Working in OFS may also count toward internship hours for your academic program. 

What do Peer Financial Coaches do?

  • Provide one-on-one financial coaching to MU students
  • Lead financial literacy presentations and workshops
  • Assist with outreach projects to connect students to OFS services
  • Manage tabling events promoting the services provided by OFS
  • Assist in event planning and presentation development
  • Contribute creative ideas for social media pages, newsletters, handouts and other OFS resources
  • Maintain front-desk administrative responsibilities
  • Professionally interact with students, faculty, and staff on a daily basis

Qualifications

  • Current student at the University of Missouri with at least two full semesters remaining until graduation.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively through written and verbal means
  • Be self-motivated, detail-oriented, creative, and organized
  • Ability to comfortably work one-on-one with others and maintain confidentiality
  • Interest in enhancing your personal financial knowledge through training and individual research/study
  • Ability to participate in self-paced and group training in July and August. Group training is generally scheduled in the evening to accomodate summer internship hours.
