Chubb

Sec Finance Reporting

April - September 2023 • Philadelphia, PA

What I liked

I liked the team that I had worked with for the past 6 months. The people at Chubb are welcoming and eager to help you whenever lost on something. I also enjoyed the exposure to different areas and also the group activities.

What I wish was different

I wish that organization was much better considering in my position our busiest moments were during the end of the quarter. Once we’ve filed, it got quiet & sometimes I wouldn’t have anything to do. So I would recommend finding some assignments that I could work on when that time comes around.

Advice

I would say to go for anything that makes you uncomfortable. I went into this co-op not having any experience because I wanted to learn something new that I think could help me with my future career. It’s okay to be nervous if you don’t know something, just ask for help & assistance. Just try to venture into different areas and expand your knowledge & skills, it will pay off towards your end goal.

Services Marketing and Communications Intern

June - August 2021 • Whitehouse Station, NJ

What I liked

I loved all of the people that I worked with this past summer, and the sense of community at Chubb.

What I wish was different

I wish they had a better HR department, it took a week into my internship to get my laptop. I also had to go to the tech department for multiple complications with my equipment throughout the summer.

Advice

Connect with everyone while you are doing your internship, you never know who they could know in the future!

FInancial Lines Claims Intern

June - July 2019 • Basking Ridge, NJ

What I liked

The commitment to their interns and exposing them to as much as possible, I thank Chubb for everything they provided. The versatility and flexibility allowed while conducting desk work, networking, and travel/shadowing, the internship served foundational for me moving forward.

What I wish was different

I spent 2-3 days shadowing the NYC underwriting office to see how that side of the business incorporated their efforts. How did underwriting affect the business? What did they do? I have always loved NYC and any and all ways to maximize my time in the big city would be beneficial in my viewpoint. As always, I'm always trying to grow the network and learn as much as possible; what better place than NYC?

Advice

As with any internship/work experience, ask questions as much as possible. Everyone in the workplace is receptive to questions [no dumb questions] and asking more and more allows for growth. The more information we know, they better we can help. I came in raw, introverted, and hesitant but a couple weeks into my first internship, I fully understood the perspective and actions necessary to continue moving forward [in my career].

I was only one Co-op in that department, so I had no one to talk (However, I supposed to work there not chatting, so it was totally fine with me).

Product

May - August 2018 • Whitehouse Station, NJ

What I liked

The corporate culture was very inclusive and welcoming. I was able to perform to the best of my abilities because I adapted quickly and became apart of the family. I also enjoyed learning, tools and techniques that are required in my career and putting these to use in real world situations. I also enjoyed meeting some of the executives. Hearing them share their internship and career experiences resonates with me.

What I wish was different

Chubb didn't provide housing, the commute from New York City to Whitehouse is very difficult, sometimes taking longer than 3 hours. I eventually sought lodging nearby and made lemonade.

Advice

Forgive my bias, but I learnt far more than I ever thought I would. The assignments I tackled were the ones my boss would be taking on. If you ever want a more hands on internship, Chubb is the place for you.
